INTRODUCTION
Hi, my name is Craig Stewart. I've been a martial artist for over forty years and I am accredited with the Martial Art Industry Association, the peak industry body for martial arts in Australia. I am also a member of Kung Fu Wushu Victoria, the official governing body for Chinese martial arts in Victoria. This is my story.


FIRST ENCOUNTER
I started my martial arts training in 1974 after seeing a Bruce Lee movie at the start of the kung-fu boom I was captivated by the lighting speed and flashy kicks so much that within a week I had joined a kung fu school. At first I thought that martial arts was all about being flashy: Flashy uniform, flashy kicks and punches.




DIFFERENT STYLES
I initially thought the way to get good was to train hard and learn as much as you could. So I enveloped myself into the world of martial arts training simultaneously at different dojo's and trading skills with other martial artists. I even lived in a martial arts school in the 80's
SOME OF THE DIFFERENT STYLES I HAVE TRAINED IN OVER THE PAST 40 YEARS ARE:

WING CHUN - JIU JITSU - KARATE - TAI CHI - KICKBOXING - CATCH AS CATCH CAN - SYSTEMA - UNARMED SELF DEFENCE

CHANGE
After training for over a decade, I realized that being flashy didn't mean that I could fight or defend myself effectively which is a little bit embarrassing after ten years of martial arts training. This realization dawned on me when I started working in the security industry so I made it my goal to find simple, effective, reality based self defence skills that weren't dependent on being bigger, stronger, faster, fitter and tougher than everybody else.

After forty plus years of studying martial arts I believe all martial arts can be good. How good really depends on what you're looking for.

Some of the different martial arts I teach that you may be interested in are: Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts, Shaolin Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Systema. I also teach Personal Self Defence that is tailored to suit your individual needs, interests and abilities.
